Grants Offered at NSCC
A grant does not have to be repaid. The results of your FAFSA will determine if you are eligible to receive any need based grants from the federal or state programs.
Grant amounts are often based upon financial need, and vary in amount. Some of the grants you may be eligible for include:
Federal Pell Grant:
A Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, does not have to be repaid. Pell Grants are awarded only to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s or professional degree. The maximum Pell Grant amounts can change from year-to-year. For specific yearly amounts, see the NSCC Financial Aid Office. The lifetime limit for the Federal Pell Grant is 12 full-time semesters. The amount you receive will depend on your expected family contribution (EFC), cost of attendance, and whether you are a full-time or part-time student. You may not receive Pell Grant funds from more than one school at a time. Students must maintain Satisfactory Acadamic Progress in order to qualify. Students must complete the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov in order to apply.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG):
FSEOG is for undergraduates with exceptional financial need, with priority being given to students who receive Federal Pell Grants. FSEOG does not have to be paid back. Funds will be credited to your expenses in the registration process through the NSCC Business Office. Students must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours and maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Ohio College Opportunity Grant (OCOG):
The Ohio Department of Higher Education administers the OCOG program, which provides grant money to Ohio residents who demonstrate the highest levels of financial need as determined by the results of the FAFSA.
Important notes about these grants:
- Ohio residents in an associates degree, first bachelor’s degree, or nurse diploma program at an eligible Ohio institution
- AFSA Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $2,190 or less and a maximum household income of $75,000
- The initial FAFSA must be submitted by October 1
- Students are limited to 10 semesters or 15 quarters of state, need-based grant aid (including combination of OCOG and OIG)
- Students enrolled at community colleges are only eligible for OCOG during the spring semester and only if they were enrolled during the previous summer and fall semesters and have a limited (reduced) pell award remaining for the spring semester
- OCOG can only be used for tuition and general fees
