Guidance for Adult Learners

Our Adult Studies Coordinator provides personalized guidance and support to students who are balancing college with work, family, parenting, caregiving, military service, career changes, or other life responsibilities. This support is designed to help adult learners feel more confident, connected, and prepared as they work toward earning a certificate or degree, developing new skills, or pursuing a new career goal.

Adult learners bring valuable knowledge, skills, and life experience to the classroom. The Adult Studies Coordinator helps students build on those strengths while connecting them with the people, services, and resources that can support their success at Northwest State.

How Adult Studies Can Support You

Support may include:

  • One-on-one guidance, encouragement, and ongoing support
  • Help understanding college processes, expectations, and requirements
  • Connections to tutoring, academic advising, financial aid, career services, and other campus resources
  • Help creating a realistic balance between school, work, family, and personal responsibilities
  • Goal setting, success planning, and identifying manageable next steps
  • Support with confidence, organization, time management, and self-advocacy
  • Referrals to campus and community resources when additional assistance is needed

Who Can Receive Adult Studies Support?

You may benefit from guidance and support from the Adult Studies Coordinator if you:

  • Are age 25 or older
  • Are returning to college after time away
  • Are starting college for the first time as an adult
  • Are balancing school with work, parenting, caregiving, or other responsibilities
  • Are changing careers or working to develop new skills
  • Feel unsure about how or where to begin
  • Would like additional support staying organized, motivated, and on track
  • Need help connecting with the appropriate person, service, or office on campus

Whether you are beginning college, returning after several years, or adjusting to new responsibilities, you do not have to navigate the process alone. Adult Studies support is available to help you identify your next steps, connect with helpful resources, and continue moving toward your goals.
