Northwest State Community College Delivers "State of the College" Address
ARCHBOLD, OHIO – Northwest State Community College hosted its “State of the College” Address at the Voinovich Auditorium, held on September 25, 2025. The 2025 event was an internal offering, as Northwest State faculty, staff and administration were in attendance, along with members of the NSCC Board of Trustees. Following introductions from Emcee Joel Miller and NSCC Board of Trustees Chair Katrina DeGroff, NSCC President Dr. Todd Hernandez provided an important update on the College’s “Elevate Northwest Ohio” initiative. The event’s closing speaker was Daniel Benecke, a 2000 NSCC graduate and a 2025 NSCC Distinguished Alumni. The overall theme of the event was one of gratitude and appreciation, and all speakers shared personal examples embodying that theme.Read More -
Northwest State Community College Raises $16,000 for Student Scholarships at 5th Annual Van Wert Campus Golf Outing
ARCHBOLD, OHIO – Northwest State Community College recently hosted its 5th Annual Van Wert Campus Golf Outing on Friday, September 12th at Hickory Sticks Golf Club in Van Wert. 96 participants enjoyed a fun day of golf, games and prizes, all in an effort to raise NSCC scholarship dollars for Paulding and Van Wert learners. Over $16,000 was raised as a result of the September 12th event. In total, over $66,000 has been raised by the five golf outings.Read More -

Northwest State Business Programs Receive 10-Year Reaffirmation by the Accreditation Council For Business Schools and Programs (Acbsp)
Northwest State Community College business programs have been formally granted continuing accreditation through spring 2035 by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The decision comes from the ACBSP Board of Commissioners meeting in June.Read More -
Eleven Complete Law Enforcement Academy at Nscc
Eleven graduates from the Northwest State Community College Law Enforcement Academy were honored on June 18th during a special evening ceremony. The class successfully completed both the state certification exam and the physical fitness requirements of the program. All nine graduates have also passed the 200-question Ohio Peace Officer Training Association (OPOTA) Certification examination, which is a requirement to become a law enforcement officer in the State of Ohio.Read More -
Northwest State Community College Foundation Presents $1,051,000 Check to Board of Trustees

After roll call, Robbin Wilcox, NSCC Executive Director for Development & NSCC Foundation, and Foundation Board Chair Peter Beck presented the Board with a check in the amount of $1,051,000. The money is designated for student scholarships, equipment, outreach programs and student support efforts.

Northwest State Raises Over $63,000 For Student Scholarships at its 2025 Green Carpet Event
The Northwest State Community College Foundation recently hosted its annual Green Carpet Event, “Unlock Students’ Possibilities,” and raised over $63,000. All proceeds from the event go directly to student scholarships. A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the 2025 Making a Difference Awards, which were created by the NSCC Foundation as a way to recognize and celebrate individuals, businesses and organizations in the six-county area committed to improving their communities. This year’s recipients were Kathy Shaw (Wauseon) and Filling Homes (Napoleon).Read More -
Northwest State Announces 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipients
Five individuals have been selected to receive the Northwest State Community College Distinguished Alumni Award for 2025. Those individuals were officially recognized during a special luncheon ceremony prior to Spring Commencement on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at the Archbold Campus. Plaques with their likeness will also be added to the prestigious Alumni wall of award recipients, located outside the Voinovich Auditorium in the College’s E wing.Read More -
Northwest State Announces Spring 2025 Dean’s List
Northwest State Community College has announced its spring semester dean’s list. To be eligible, students must have taken at least 12 credit hours as a full-time student, or 6-11.99 as a part-time student, and have averaged above a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.Read More -
Northwest State Announces Educational Partnership With North Star Bluescope Steel
Northwest State Community College is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with North Star BlueScope Steel that will expand educational opportunities for high school students in Fulton County and the surrounding area. Beginning this fall, Northwest State will offer on-site college courses at the North Star BlueScope facility, specifically designed for high school students interested in pursuing careers in engineering or industrial maintenance.Read More -

Northwest State Community College recognized its Nursing graduates at a recent pinning ceremony in the following areas: Practical Nursing (PN) and Registered Nursing (RN). The pinning ceremony took place on Saturday, May 10th on the Archbold campus, prior to Spring Commencement.Read More -
Northwest State Hosts Spring Honors Induction Ceremony
The Spring Induction Ceremony for the Alpha Delta Nu (ADN), Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), and Kappa Beta Delta (KBD) Honors Societies was held at Northwest State Community College (NSCC) on April 29, 2025. The evening opened with an inspirational address from Dr. Lana Snider, NSCC Vice President for Academics, followed by the member inductions. ADN, a Nursing Honor Society, welcomed five (5) new members; PTK, a general Academic Honor Society, welcomed nine (9) new members; and KBD, a Business Honor Society, welcomed three (3) new members. The evening concluded with a small celebratory reception.Read More -
Nscc Commencement Ceremony Recognizes 251 Graduates
Northwest State Community College celebrated the 2025 graduating class at its spring Commencement Ceremony this past weekend, held at Founder’s Hall in Archbold. The ceremony recognized 251 graduates who completed an Associate degree or certificate program with the College during fall, spring or summer term, comprising a total of 259 awards (196 associate degrees and 63 short-term certificates). Two students graduated via College Credit Plus, before they officially graduate from high school. Cassie Rickenberg, NSCC Vice President of Enrollment Management & Student Affairs, noted that 84% of the graduating class lives in the six-county service area of Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Paulding, Van Wert and Williams counties. Rickenberg also noted the students earning various honor society awards – 23 graduates are Phi Theta Kappa, five graduates are Alpha Delta Nu (nursing), and six graduates are Kappa Beta Delta (business).Read More -

Northwest State Community College recently recognized thirteen Award of Merit recipients. For over 25 years, Northwest State has recognized graduates within the degree programs for their academic achievements. Award of Merit recipients are chosen by faculty from the respective divisions based on leadership involvement, special talents or abilities in their academic field, and significant contributions to Northwest State.Read More -
Northwest State Community College Enrollment and Retention Highlighted at Board of Trustees Meeting
Read MoreThe Northwest State Community College Board of Trustees met in regular session on Friday, April 25th at the Archbold campus. As part of the meeting’s agenda, the Board heard presentations from Cabinet members. One such presentation was from Cassie Rickenberg, NSCC Vice President for Enrollment Management & Student Affairs. Rickenberg noted that for the Summer 2025 semester (48 days until start), there is a 10% increase in overall student count versus last summer, including a 13% increase in returning learners, and a 31% increase in guest learners. For the Fall 2025 semester (120 days until start), there is a 9% increase in overall student count versus last fall, including a 27% increase in new learners, and a 20% increase in returning learners.

Northwest State To Host Summer Camps For Students of All Ages!
Northwest State Community College will host a series of hands-on summer STEM camps for learners of all ages, beginning on June 9 with Tinker Camp. The camp season will wrap up on July 16. This year’s summer camp subjects include many of Northwest State’s academic divisions, including Custom Training Solutions (CTS), Arts & Sciences and Nursing & Allied Health, and Business & Public Service. All camps will be hosted at the Archbold campus, and campers can expect fun, hands-on learning activities as part of their action-packed camps.Read More -
Northwest State Community College-Led Team Earns 7th Place Finish In Championship Round of State First Robotics Competition
The Northwest State Community College FIRST Robotics high school team 6181 (Cryptic Cyborgs) competed at the 2025 Buckeye Regional tournament held at Cleveland State University – Wolstein Center, April 3 through April 5, 2025. Teams from Ohio, New York and Pennsylvania, as well as international teams from the Dominican Republic and Turkey competed at the event. The Northwest State Community College team members are from local high schools in northwest Ohio, including Ayersville, Central Local (Fairview), Delta, Liberty Center, Napoleon, Wauseon, and Four County Career Center.Read More -

As part of the meeting’s agenda, the Board elected its new Chair, Vice Chair and Second Vice Chair for the period of February 2025 to February 2026. Katrina DeGroff (Fulton County) was elected Chair, Mickey Schwarzbek (Defiance County) was elected Vice Chair, and Joel Miller (Henry County) was elected as Second Vice Chair by the Board. NSCC President Dr. Todd Hernandez offered remarks of gratitude for Sandra Barber, who served as Chair for the 2024-2025 period, for her ongoing dedication and years of service to the College.

Read MoreDecember 11, 2024 - ARCHBOLD, OHIO – Northwest State Community College recently recognized Phi Theta Kappa and Alpha Delta Nu inductees at an evening ceremony on the Archbold campus. The event, held on 12/3/24, opened with a welcome by Dr. Melanie Hicks, Nursing Faculty and ADN advisor, followed by an inspirational and congratulatory address by Jillian Clapp, Distinguished Alumni and graduate of NSCC in 2021. Dr. Hicks inducted the ADN students, while PTK Co-Advisors Kara Flesher, Academic Advisor, and Lisa Dapelo, Natural Sciences faculty, inducted the PTK students. The evening welcomed five ADN members, and ten PTK members.
