COLUMBUS, OH, May 9, 2023 - Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) Chancellor Randy Gardner today named the latest group of Ohio colleges and universities designated as Collegiate Purple Star campuses for their efforts to support students with military backgrounds.

This latest group of 10 Collegiate Purple Star campuses increases to 46 the number of schools that have earned the designation since 2022. Ohio was the first state in the nation to offer these designations, which advance the work already done by Ohio’s PreK-12 school system to create the Purple Star designation for those schools that worked to become military friendly. Included in the "public campuses" group is Northwest State Community College.

"Northwest State is proud to be designated with this prestigious award," said Dr. Todd Hernandez, President of Northwest State Community College. Hernandez, a veteran of the United States Navy, continued, "Our Registrar's office does a tremendous job with courteous and diligent service to our military community, providing access to available resources, and a great education at Northwest State."

More information on the Collegiate Purple Star program is available online at highered.ohio.gov.
