How It Works

You have the option to apply this credit to your NSCC account to help you earn your certificate or degree faster. If the course counts towards your certificate or degree, it will transfer in as a CTAG credit for that specific course. You will be able to view this in your DegreeWorks once it is applied to your account. You will see the CTAG course listed in place of the course you were required to take for your certificate or degree and marking it as complete.

How to Bring in Your Credit

Step One

Make sure you have applied to NSCC and let your Admissions Recruiter, CCP Advisor, or Academic Advisor know that you are attending a Career Tech School.

Step Two

Fill out this form for the Registrar’s Office.

Step Three

Our Registrar will be given a list from the State of the NSCC learners who have CTAG credit for the current year. Before your credit can be applied to your NSCC account you will need to give permission to the Registrar to have the course added.

Give permission in one of three ways:

  1. Giving permission during your WebXam.
  2. Filling out the Google Form above.
  3. Answering an email from the Registrar’s Office (if you did not do #1 or #2 options).

Note: If this is your senior year in high school, and you are currently taking a CTAG class, you will want to discuss this with your Academic Advisor. The CTAG information is typically sent to NSCC sometime between June and August and you may be scheduling your fall classes prior to this date.

What The DSST Exam Is

DSST (formerly DANTES Subject Standardized Tests) are credit-by-examination tests originated by the United States Department of Defense's Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) program. The program is an extensive series of 33 examinations in college subject areas that are comparable to the final or end-of-course examinations in undergraduate college courses. These tests are frequently used in conjunction with CLEP (College Level Examination Program) tests by students pursuing college degrees in non-traditional formats. Whereas CLEP tests are almost exclusively used for lower level credit at regionally accredited institutions, DSST's are available for both upper and lower level credit.
