Examination Credit
Examination Credit can be applied for Advanced Placement (AP), The College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP), and the DSST Exam
What Advanced Placement (AP) Is
An Advanced Placement (AP) course is a class that you take at your high school and at the end of the course (typically in May) you take the AP Exam.
How It Works
You have the option to apply this credit to your NSCC account to help you earn your certificate or degree faster. If the course counts towards your certificate or degree, it will transfer in as AP credit for that specific course. You will be able to view this in your DegreeWorks once it is applied to your account. You will see the AP course listed in place of the course you were required to take for your certificate or degree and marking it as complete.
How to Bring in Your Credit
Step One
Make sure you have applied to NSCC and let your Admissions Recruiter, CCP Advisor, or Academic Advisor know that you have or are currently taking an AP course at your high school.
Step Two
You will want to send your AP scores to NSCC to have them applied to your NSCC account. You will need to send them from the AP website.
Note: You can send your scores for free to one college, university, or scholarship program by the deadline AP has every year you take an AP exam. Check out this AP page for the deadline.
If this is your senior year in high school, and you are currently taking an AP class, you will want to discuss this with your Academic Advisor. The AP scores will typically not be complete or send to NSCC until sometime in July and you may be scheduling your fall classes prior to this date.

What The College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP) Is
The College-Level Examination Program helps you receive college credit for what you already know. CLEP offers many exams that cover introductory level college course material. With a passing score on one CLEP exam you could earn three or more college credits.
How It Works
You have the option to apply this credit to your NSCC account to help you earn your certificate or degree faster. If the course counts towards your certificate or degree, it will transfer in as CLEP credit for that specific course. You will be able to view this in your DegreeWorks once it is applied to your account. You will see the CLEP course listed in place of the course you were required to take for your certificate or degree and marking it as complete.
How to Bring in Your Credit
Step One
Make sure you have applied to NSCC and let your Admissions Recruiter, CCP Advisor, or Academic Advisor know that you have taken a CLEP exam.
Step Two
If you took a CLEP exam, you will want to send your scores to NSCC to be applied to your account. To request your scores, you will need to Log In to your CLEP account.

What The DSST Exam Is
DSST (formerly DANTES Subject Standardized Tests) are credit-by-examination tests originated by the United States Department of Defense's Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) program. The program is an extensive series of 33 examinations in college subject areas that are comparable to the final or end-of-course examinations in undergraduate college courses. These tests are frequently used in conjunction with CLEP (College Level Examination Program) tests by students pursuing college degrees in non-traditional formats. Whereas CLEP tests are almost exclusively used for lower level credit at regionally accredited institutions, DSST's are available for both upper and lower level credit.
