Program Overview

If you would enjoy working with people and office technology, our office assistant certificate may be right for you. This one-year certificate provides the skills you need for an entry-level position in today’s fast-paced and technological business office. This certificate is also “stackable” with our office administration degree. You can earn the one-year certificate, get a job and then with just one additional year, earn your office administration associate degree.

In this program, students learn time management and organizational skills while gaining proficiency with professional communication. Students also gain competence in several software programs commonly used in business offices.

Graduates are prepared to compile data from office records into statements, letters, forms and reports; organize and file offices records; and run and maintain copy machines and other office technology. Graduates may also assist with general business tasks such as responding to mail, arranging business trips and scheduling appointments.

Career Outlook

Employment opportunities should be very good, especially for those who have obtained excellent communication skills. Although many of the tasks that administrative assistants perform have become automated, it will be those tasks which require personal contact and communication which will continue to play a key role in the office activities of most organizations.
