The Northwest State Community College Board of Trustees met in regular session on June 16, where President Tom Stuckey announced a new partnership with Keller Trucking, beginning with the fall 2017 semester.
Dr. Stuckey shared information on the revitalized short-term truck driving certificate program at the College, which will be comprised of three courses totaling eighteen credit hours. Graduates of the program will obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to test for their CDL. Stuckey noted that Keller Trucking is providing resources to the program and that they anticipate hiring many of its graduates. “Good paying logistics and trucking career opportunities are available right now all around northwest Ohio. The only obstacle is fulfilling the need for skilled and qualified professional drivers. This program will serve to fill that need,” Stuckey said.
It was also announced that a tentative agreement is now in place between Northwest State and the professional staff bargaining unit. Katy McKelvey, director of human resources, and Colin Doolittle, engineering technologies faculty and union representative, made the joint announcement to the Board. The tentative agreement is now subject to a vote of ratification.
In other board action:
- Approved the promotions of Patti Altman to dean of nursing, Nichole Gerschutz to admissions recruiter, and John Shrader to senior administrator-network/systems
- Approved employment of Brad Geer, prior experience and workplace coordinator; Todd Harris, training coordinator-advanced manufacturing; and Tami Herman, MEP sales account manager-Scott Park campus
- Approved transfer of Katrina Adams to secretary-foundation, Allied Health & Public Services and Business Divisions
- Approved the April 30, 2017 financial report
- Approved the 2017-2018 operating budget
- Approved a new short-term cyber security certificate program, pending official approval from the Ohio Department of Higher Education
