Program Overview
The Northwest State Law Enforcement Academy is an evening and weekend program that lasts two semesters (August-May) and includes classroom and lab experiences. This rigorous program places a strong emphasis on integrity and professionalism in order to ensure that graduates are prepared to succeed as law enforcement officers. Successful completion of the academy includes meeting the physical fitness requirements and passing the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy certification exam.
The academy includes 28 credit hours of coursework, which can be applied toward an associate degree at NSCC. After completing the academy and working in the law enforcement field, many choose to return to NSCC and complete an associate degree in criminal justice-law enforcement academy option in order to increase their career opportunities. This option is also helpful for students who are under 21, as it allows them to earn a degree in a related field while waiting to meet the academy’s age requirement.
