Program Overview
Growing concerns over the increasing number of cyber attacks have made cybersecurity a hot career field. Thanks to the CyberOhio Initiative, cybersecurity training
opportunities and internships with area businesses have increased as well.
Northwest State offers a short-term certificate program in cybersecurity. This semester-long program includes two, 8-week sessions that are held in the evenings. The
hybrid format allows students to complete readings and knowledge assessments outside of class, with class time dedicated to hands-on activities and assessments.
The cybersecurity certificate program includes coursework in security, networking, cyber programming, network security and security audits. Students who earn this certificate will be prepared for a variety of career options, including operations center analyst, cybersecurity analyst and others.
Career Outlook
The career outlook for cybersecurity is very good. There is currently 0% unemployment in the field. According to current reports and statistics, there will be 6 million cybersecurity jobs by 2019. Possible career titles are security operations center analyst, information security analyst, cyber security analyst, penetration tester, information assurance analyst, and cyber operations analyst.
National Cyberwatch Center
NSCC is a member of the National Cyberwatch Center, which is a consortium of higher education institutions, businesses and government agencies focused on collaborative efforts to advance information security education and strengthen the national cybersecurity workforce.
