COMPUTER PROGRAMMING

Program Overview

Computers play a part in nearly all phases of our life today. Businesses and governmental agencies, large and small, require trained computer specialists. The computer programming degree prepares computer programmers and computer operators to work with a wide variety of computers and languages used by area employers. Emphasis is placed upon business-oriented computer languages. Programming and practical applications of business data are stressed. In the laboratory, hands-on experience is provided using the Internet and PC-compatible computers.

 

Career Outlook

O*Net Online projects a bright outlook for computer programming degree students. Bright outlook occupations are expected to grow rapidly in the next several years, will have large numbers of job openings, or are new and emerging occupations.

Job duties include creating, modifying and testing the code, forms and scripts that allow computer applications to run. Work is performed based upon specifications drawn up by software developers or other individuals. Programmers may assist software developers by analyzing user needs and designing software solutions. Programmers may develop and write computer programs to store, locate and retrieve specific documents, data and information.
