All new degree-seeking students are required to either submit their ACT scores or complete the COMPASS Assessment Test. The COMPASS is a computerized placement test that covers basic skill areas in writing, reading and mathematics. You are not rewarded or penalized for your scores on the COMPASS Assessment; it is just one of the many tools that your advisor will use to help you register for classes.
Once you have submitted an application for admission to Northwest State, select a date and time to take the COMPASS Assessment. Please plan on about one and half hours for testing and come prepared with your N# and a photo ID.

What should I do before testing?
Students are encouraged to review sample test questions before taking the COMPASS. By refreshing your memory on certain topics, it will be a more accurate assessment of your current skills. Students are encouraged to bring a calculator to the COMPASS Assessment test. Graphing calculators are not permitted.
